Bloomify exists to make keeping plants alive effortless — starting with the one plant everyone kills: the orchid. The answer was to re-engineer what a plant grows in.

The founder
Dr. Hsichuan Chen
A lifelong plant enthusiast with a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from NC State University, Dr. Chen spent three years as head scientist at a green-energy biotech startup before founding Bloomify. Driven to make plant care accessible, he set out to solve one problem — keeping orchids alive — and built what the company calls the first maintenance-free orchid.
The patented science
A nutritive gel that replaces soil
At Bloomify's core is a patented nutritive gel: a solid, bacteria- and mold-free medium that provides every essential nutrient a plant needs — including the sugar it would normally make through photosynthesis. Sealed in a glass dome, a plant needs no watering and no feeding, lasts 4–6 months in the jar, and can be transplanted any time. The line has since grown to low-maintenance Venus flytraps, sundews, violets, celosias and more.
